What is a Root Canal?

Dental Anatomy: Root Canal

There is a lot of highly specialised information on the web about the anatomy of the root canal. However, the basic anatomy of the root canal is very simple.

Each tooth can be divided into two parts: the crown (what is visible and above the gum line) and the root (what you cannot see).

The root canal system begins at the Dental Pulp (the soft tissue at the centre of the tooth) and extends to the end of the root. One tooth can have multiple roots.
