Dr Nick Hamilton, a leading consultant ENT surgeon and laryngologist, has launched a new specialist service called The Throat Specialist, focused entirely on the diagnosis and treatment of voice and throat conditions. The service aims to provide expert care for patients experiencing complex throat and voice problems, using advanced medical assessment and modern treatment techniques.
Dr Nick Hamilton is a consultant ENT surgeon based in London and works within the NHS at the Royal National Ear, Nose and Throat Hospital, part of University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. He also sees private patients at leading London clinics including The London Clinic and One Welbeck in Marylebone.
He completed his medical training in the UK before specialising in ear, nose and throat surgery, with a particular focus on laryngology, the area of medicine dealing with the throat and voice box. During his specialist training in London, he worked at major centres including the Royal National ENT Hospital and University College London Hospitals. He later completed a fellowship in laryngeal surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, USA, where he gained further expertise in complex voice and airway conditions.
Dr Hamilton also holds a PhD from University College London in regenerative medicine, with research focused on improving treatment for scarring and damage in the voice box and airway. He is an Associate Professor at UCL and has published extensively in the field of voice and airway disorders.
The Throat Specialist service focuses on a wide range of throat-related conditions. These include persistent hoarseness, chronic cough, throat clearing, the feeling of a lump in the throat, swallowing difficulties, and inflammation of the voice box such as laryngitis. It also treats more complex voice conditions affecting professional voice users, including singers, actors, teachers, and public speakers.

Dr Hamilton has developed particular expertise in voice disorders and throat symptoms that can significantly affect quality of life. His clinical approach combines detailed diagnostic assessment with tailored treatment plans. This may include specialist voice analysis, medical therapy, minimally invasive procedures, and collaboration with speech and language therapy teams.
A key focus of The Throat Specialist is chronic and difficult-to-treat symptoms. These include long-term cough and persistent throat irritation, which can often be linked to complex underlying causes. The service aims to identify the root cause of symptoms rather than only treating surface-level effects, ensuring patients receive targeted and effective care.
The service is based in central London, with consultations taking place at established private medical facilities in Marylebone. These include The London Clinic on Devonshire Place and One Welbeck on Welbeck Street, both known for specialist outpatient care and advanced diagnostic equipment.
Dr Hamilton said the aim of the new service is to bring together specialist expertise in one dedicated clinic focused entirely on throat health. He explained that many patients with throat symptoms can experience long delays in diagnosis, and that a focused service can help speed up assessment and improve outcomes.
The Throat Specialist will also support patients recovering from surgery or long-term voice strain, as well as those with age-related changes to the voice. The service builds on Dr Hamilton’s wider clinical and academic work in developing new treatments for voice and airway conditions.
Appointments are now available for patients seeking specialist evaluation of throat and voice symptoms. The service accepts both self-referrals and GP referrals.
